Rules & Regulations
- Participants are not allowed to identify their school name. Participants cannot wear any pins, clothing or markers of their home school. Please do not have any school branding on your final presentations. Any branding on presentations or clothing will result in automatic disqualification.
- Teams must participate in both Friday and Saturday events.
- All teams must register by October 29th and pay no later than 11:59 PM on November 3rd, 2017.
- All teams must be at the Ron Joyce Centre in Burlington, Ontario by 10:00 AM on Friday, November 24th. There will be two shuttle buses to take participants from the Burlington Waterfront hotel.
- All teams must be at the Ron Joyce Centre prior to the start of their assigned case preparation time on Saturday, November 25th. There will be two shuttle buses to take participants from the Burlington Waterfront hotel.
- Laptops will NOT be provided, please bring your own.
- Participants will have access to the Internet during the case, but may NOT contact any outside sources or contacts during the allotted case time.
- All participants MUST be registered in an MBA program.
- Only ONE team per school will be accepted for the 2017 DeGroote Case Competition.
- If an alternate is sent on behalf of a registered team member, the alternate must also be registered in the school’s MBA program. Only four team members may attend the 2017 DCC.
- The alternate may only replace a team member under extenuating circumstances. Teams must inform the DeGroote Case Competition Executive Team by Friday, November 24th at 8:00 AM if there are any changes to the team.
CASE SPECIFIC RULES:
All cases and challenges have monetary prizes associated with them.
SOCIAL MEDIA VIDEO CHALLENGE:
- Teams will be provided with a mini case shortly after registration closes on October 29th, 2017 and tasked with the creation of a 1-2 minute video that answers a question posed by our SMVC sponsor.
- The challenge is to create a high quality video (submitted by November 17th, 2017) that will then be uploaded by the DCC Executive team onto our social media page (November 18th, 2017).
- Teams will have between November 18th and 23rd to promote their video.
- 40% of the score will be based on your ability to drive traffic to our social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube).
- The remaining 60% of your score will be based off of a video quality assessment by the sponsor.
UNIQUE CASE (FRIDAY EVENT):
- The Unique Case will be unpublished and untested to the best of the Organizer’s knowledge.
- Teams will be provided 90 minutes to read and prepare a 10-minute presentation followed by a 5 minute Q&A from judges.
- Participants are only allowed to work within their new assigned teams.
TRADITIONAL CASE (SATURDAY EVENT):
- The Traditional Case will be unpublished and untested to the best of the Organizer’s knowledge.
- On the evening of Friday, November 24th teams will be split into tracks at random and given their presentation times for the following day.
- Teams will have 3 hours to read and analyze the Traditional Case.
- Teams must hand in their USB with their presentations to the designated volunteer by the time defined in their competition packages.
- The Traditional Case will require teams to prepare a 15 minute presentation followed by a 10 minute Q&A period by the judges.
- The top four teams will participate in the final case presentation. Participants may need to make changes to their recommendations based on new case information provided after the first round. Each final presentation will be 15 minutes in length followed by a 10 minute Q&A from final judges.
